I believe this to be a sample of what eventually developed into the PGWL 01 GARMENT DYED M65 jacket, which had the following retail write up:
A highly detailed, multi-pocketed, zip through hooded jacket with an oversized silhouette. Made in a high-density premium Japanese cotton that has undergone a unique garment-dyeing process.
